Our Mandate

The East African Screen Collective is a coalition of companies and organizations advocating for narrative sovereignty in the screen-based sectors (TV, film and digital) in Eastern Africa. The collective aims to increase the production and export of content from the region and support the sector's stabilization and growth.

Guiding Principles

  • We act as a collective voice for companies and creators in the screen sector in East Africa 

  • We are focused on empowering East African creators to own and control their IP and to finance, produce and distribute their content

  • Our work is grounded in data, community consultation, research-driven and evidence-based

  • We engage with governments, stakeholders and other industry actors on shared solutions and policy recommendations

Current Projects

Project: DW Akademie Film Development Fund
Program Dates: May 2023 to March 2024

EASC is an implementation partner of this DW program, which supports 15 filmmakers in Ethiopia, Uganda and Tanzania with funding, mentorship and training to develop feature film projects.
